New season, same story

Past few season openers and second matchday fixtures have been awkward (to say the least) for Everton. Last week a bad performance at Ewood Park but this time around it was a rather unlucky.

It started all well with Everton passing the ball well, keeping possession and creating chances some of which were really threatening but as it seemed to be the case last year we had a sturdy opposition in Marcus Hahneman again this year. But he could do nothing when Timmy Cahill lashed the ball into the roof of the net after an Arteta free kick. Later in the game Ebans-Blake equalized (15 minutes to go) and that was it when it comes to capping the game.

I would like to start a discussion with my fellow Evertonians. We have a strong team. Stronger than ever before I think. But it seems to me that other teams got used to us playing the formation we do. 451 away and this 433 at home. I think we have the squad to play 442 easily with two strikers, we need more target options at the front with Cahill behind the strikers it would just be more easier to convert the chances we can create with Arteta and other midfield players we have, floating and drilling the crosses in. It again shows that Beckford need some time to settle in but he surely is a good addition to the squad.

So what was your take on today’s game? What do you think needs changing, does anything need to change?
